Since our founding, Christ-Centered Community Counseling, PLLC (C4) has provided culturally sensitive and trauma healing therapy to Charlotte’s most vulnerable and marginalized populations. The pandemic and civil unrest have exacerbated the need for mental health services across our nation. In response, we have expanded our office to meet the rising need for services centered on the historical trauma and present-day realities of Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC). 

 

Faith is our motivation for providing trauma care. We are pleased to see our organizational values promoted on a global scale. C4 condemns racism and reaffirms our commitment to honor and promote the dignity, experiences, and well-being of the populations we serve. 

 

Our hearts ache: "Arise, cry out in the night, at the beginning of the watches; pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord. Lift your hands toward Him for the life of your young children…." [Lamentations 2:19] 

 

C4 is a collective of clinicians between neighborhoods and cities, and yet our leadership team remains rooted in place as local residents on the West Side of Charlotte. As mental health clinicians, we are dedicated to the cause of Christ, which requires proximity and engagement in social justice movements. We acknowledge the history of racial segregation of churches, especially in the south, and how members of our faith have been complicit in reinforcing white supremacy. Similarly, we acknowledge the legacy of racial disparity in mental health that has led to disproportionately overdiagnosing and under-servicing the BIPOC community. 

 

We are committed to changing the narrative, and that begins first with self-reflection and on-going action. Our ongoing repentance is a daily, lifelong process of prayerful, spiritual, interpersonal, communal, structural, political (polis), and economic transformation as we learn to name the specific harm we have experienced while working to dismantle systems of racism, sexism, classism, and American Christian nationalism. We are reflecting on how we have been complicit in these systems of oppression and recognize our moral agency and responsibility to examine and restructure our organization to reflect our commitment to provide restorative trauma services.
